Boston on List of Potential Host Cities for 2024 Olympics

The USOC has narrowed a list of possible host cities down and expects to make a bid this year.

Boston has been placed on a list of possible host cities for the 2024 Olympics, and the U.S. Olympic Committee said this week that it expects to bid in the next several months, MyFoxBoston reported Tuesday

Last year, Boston officials discussed the potential of Boston being a host city for the 2024 games; while Boston District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley said it could bring benefits, former Mayor Thomas Menino called the idea "far-fetched." 

Last November, several public figures, including former Gov. Mitt Romney, New England Patriots Owner Robert Kraft and former Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis, supported the idea

USOC Chair Larry Probst said Tuesday that the USOC had been contacting cities that expressed interest in a possible bid, and Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston were among the cities receiving consideration. Committee members, however, are waiting to see how the selection process may change before committing to a bid, according to MyFoxBoston.
