5 Tips for The College Graduate

5 Tips for The College Graduate

If you haven't noticed from my updates on TwitterFacebook and Instagram...My sister graduated college Sunday! It was only two years ago that I graduated and I still remember exactly how I felt. Here are some of the things I needed to hear:

1. Let people know you're looking for a job.
Tell everyone what you are looking for. I know it sounds obvious but make sure you tell every person you talk to what you are looking for. For example "Hi Kendall how are you", "I'm good! I'm looking to take on a few more nutrition and yoga clients right now. How's everything going with you". Don't be shy, it won't get you anywhere.

2. Trust that you actually learned something in college. I had a few "freak outs" during my senior year. The biggest freak out was when I thought I had to remember everything I learned in 4 years. I also thought that I would have to know how to do my job perfectly on day one. People know that you will need to be trained and will tell you what you should be doing at your job. It takes a good month to fully get used to your roll and a good boss will know that.

3. Settle. It is still a difficult economy. Be realistic. Just like buying your first car or house you don't get exactly what you want right away. Set your goals high and work towards them but do not expect to get your dream job right away. Allow your first job to be a stepping stone to get experience and then move on.

4. Save and budget your money. It seems like you are making A LOT of money right out of school but once you move out of your parents house you realize how quickly your paychecks will be spent. If you are living at home save every penny!

5. It's okay if you don't know what you want to do! I would never have guessed that 2 years after graduation I would be a Holistic Nutrition Counselor and Yoga Instructor. Go with the flow and see where it takes you!

What advice would you give to someone out of college?
