I Lived!

My first 5k. I can't believe I made it through!

I made it through my first 5k with my boyfriend by my side coaching me! We finished in 34 minutes! 34 minutes! I just wanted to finish.  I started the morning off with some berries and lemon water with turmeric.  I was excited and nervous! I woke up at 6am then went back to sleep for an hour or so. I was having dreams about the race. When we got there I felt pretty awkward and out of place. I felt like a fake. Torey must have been reading my mind because he kept giving me little pep talks.

We started out about 3/4 the way back. I did not want to be rushed from the start. I rather pass people then push myself on mile 1 and have to walk. After a half mile or so the race started to thin out and we started passing people! This race was for me and I wasn't trying to compare myself to others, I was just in utter shock.

It was a nice pretty flat race about 1/2 of it was in the shade but it was pretty narrow. It was HOT out. The last mile was in the sun and I really felt the weight of the heat on me. A few people kept running at a good pace then stopping and we had to keep going around them then they were passing us. It was pretty frustrating because I felt like I could only keep going straight. I couldn't use anymore energy on avoiding others.

If I didn't have Torey running with me I don't think I would have finished. He gave me some great advice and said "Listen to your breath and your body will follow". He also told me how proud he was of me through the whole race. I kept visualizing myself in a pool or in yoga. I even came into a mudra at one point. I said to myself that I was light and I tried to smile and think about how happy I am to be running. That really helped.

I SPRINTED the last bit. I couldn't even believe it. Who is this girl? And then I begged Torey to grab us a water before I puked.

I didn't puke. I finished. And I even used a porter potty twice.
