Jog-Walking My Way to a 5k
Running outside is definitely one of my insecurities but I am determined to run a 5k!
It has been a BUSY Sunday! I woke up early to go assist Power Yoga. I have one more time assisting and then I will be finishing my certification and moving! After assisting I had a quick lunch and went back to the studio for YTT Sunday workshop on Intelligent Sequencing. Our instructor, Kristy, was extremely informative with her background in dance, science, and kinesiology. She made up a few handouts that I will definitely be referencing when prepping my classes.
After class, my guy and I finally went for a Jog-Walk. Thanks to Emily for asking last night If I ran because if she didn't bring it up I probably would not have made my guy promise he'd go for a run after yoga. We started to go on a few jog-walks last fall and I was building endurance but it became too cold and hurt my chest and throat. I don't know how you runners do it!
Running is definitely one of my insecurities. The girl with the buddha belly could never finish the mile in school and I even skipped a day in 4th grade when we went to the high school and did relay races. I was a well liked kid but not in group sports or in gym class. That's why I loved yoga at a young age, I felt like I could do something active and I was relatively good at it due to my natural flexibility.
We were outside for about a half hour and We ran about 5 minutes jogging then 2 minutes walking, four times. When we came inside I immediately got into a childs pose, downward facing dog, frog pose, baddha konasana, dandasana, and my hip saver pigeon. My guy on the other hand, watched me stretch while eating...cookies! His metabolism amazes me.
I am determined to run a 5k. I'm not sure when it will be but I'm hoping to find a race in Boston in the early fall. 2 other YTT friends have a difficult time running and also want to run a 5k! Hopefully we will can find a run and do it together. It's funny because I can work out on the elliptical for 30-45 minutes, same for the bike, and take an hour and a half power yoga or vinyasa class and be fine. There is something about about running outside that is just really challenging to me. So along with YTT I will be keeping you updated with my jog-walks. Warning: Progress will be slow but it will happen! I wore matching sneakers this time!
Is there any activity/sport that you have always struggled with?
