Navy Yard Views: Notes as the Year Closes

The end of each year is a special time. A time we see friends and family and enjoy the holiday season. Take a look around and appreciate the people and things that make our lives wonderful. 

Have you noticed the sculptures along the Harbor Walk? Parris Landing recently placed three sculptures on loan from sculptor John Raimondi. Raimondi is a Boston born and educated, internationally renowned and recognized sculptor. The three pieces are part of Raimondi's "Jazz Series" inspired by "Billie" as in Billie Holiday, "Chet" as in Chet Baker, "Trane" as in John Coltrane. The end of year is a time that we take a look at things that we want to improve.  The turnout at City Hall for the Boston Conservation Commission hearing on Wednesday night regarding Shipyard Quarters Marina was unprecedented. The room was packed with residents from Charlestown, boat owners, various neighborhood civic groups, city officials and the media. The end of the year is a time we think about logistics which might include parking
in the yard. If you are looking for winter parking a couple of options that come to mind are the garage at Flagship Wharf monthly fee $145 and the MGH garage-monthly fee will be $160. 

The end of the year brought an end to Tavern On The Water in its current state.  However, it’s rumored that another experienced restaurant group will be taking over the space and renovating with the goal of being open in April. I would anticipate more information to be forthcoming after the first of the year. If you have any information and are willing to share, please comment.

The end of the year is a time for giving and different associations, businesses and properties handle holiday giving in a variety of ways. What we all want to remember is that the folks who come to work in the Yard make our lives a lot easier by showing up to work every day. Santa says there is no such thing as naughty; they are all nice, and this is the time of year to let them know they are appreciated.
