on help

in case you were wondering...

when someone offers you help, say thank you and accept. trust the gesture. they might have noticed something that you didn't about that particular moment in your life. even if they are a stranger.

accepting help won't successfully deplete the pride you've cultivated. it might, however, help guide your pride to more productive and useful places in life. if it hurts your pride, perhaps you and your pride need to have a little chat.

when life is particularly hard, ASK for help. do it in tiny increments and spread the ask over many people. (it can be more comfortable that way.) i promise, it's okay.

when somebody turns you down, don't take it personally. saying "no" is as healthy an exercise as asking for help. (an important thing to remember when you find saying "no" as hard as asking for help.)

we all need help. most of us want to help. all of us can help. this feels like very optimistic math to me...
