What do the ballots look like?
Boston uses optical scan ballots. You must fill out the little oval next to the candidate of your choice. Do not mark it with an X, and try to remain inside the oval. Visit the City of Boston’s website for more information on how to fill out an optical scan ballot.
You can also watch this League of Women Voters video demonstrating the entire process.
When do the polls open? Close?
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m..
What if I have a problem voting or see something suspicious, like illegal campaigning too close to a polling station.
If you see any irregularities or have any difficulty voting, you can contact the city's Election Department at (617)635-4483 or by filling out this online form.
