Charlestown Native Runs 2015 NY Half Marathon for Joe Andruzzi Foundation

Lorraine Reynolds, a resident of Charlestown, will run this year's United Airlines NYC Half Marathon to support the Joe Andruzzi Foundation.

(March 9, 2015 – Mansfield, Mass.) – The Joe Andruzzi Foundation, an organization that is committed to providing help and hope for cancer patients and their families by contributing financial and emotional support, is pleased to announce that Lorraine Reynolds, a resident of Charlestown, will run this year’s United Airlines NYC Half Marathon to support the organization.

On Sunday, March 15, Reynolds will join Team JAF on the streets of Manhattan. As an avid runner, Reynolds was drawn to the idea of training with the purpose of raising funds for a charity. She was first introduced to the Foundation in December 2013 at an event gala. She felt very strongly towards the Andruzzi’s mission and is a believer of the power of a smile and positive energy.

“We are thrilled to have Lorraine as a foundation ambassador and all she is doing to further our mission,” said Jen Andruzzi, Executive Director of JAF. “We truly admire our runners for physically and mentally preparing their bodies to run the upcoming race, and most of all, believing in the work our foundation does. It’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know what drives each member of Team JAF, and Lorraine’s efforts are directly benefitting cancer patients and families in need.”

Although training this winter has been difficult and runners have had to rely heavily on indoor training, Reynolds has remained enthused. She truly loves running and experiencing the “runner’s high”. She stays focused on the cause. Reynolds has passed her initial fundraising goal of $1500 and is now aiming higher. Reynolds has received tremendous support from her family and friends.

During Joe Andruzzi’s football career with the New England Patriots, Joe and his wife Jen were active locally visiting patients and families battling cancer. The Joe Andruzzi Foundation (JAF) was founded shortly after losing a close family friend to the disease, whom Joe met during his time with the Patriots. Through the foundation, they have continued to help raise money and provide support for families battling cancer, where Joe’s own diagnosis and treatment of the disease has helped drive the mission of JAF forward. The Joe Andruzzi Foundation is committed to providing help, hope, and a reason to smile for cancer patients and their families by contributing financial and emotional support when it is needed most.
