Charlestown Residents Sit Out Super Tuesday

Those who voted broke hard for Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney's in Massachusetts came with little participation from Charlestown residents.

Just 902 of your friends and neighbors visited the polls Tuesday. Just over half of those who voted participated in the Republican primary—but those who did broke hard for our former governor.

Mitt Romeny gathered 77.7 percent the Republican votes cast in Charlestown. Ron Paul followed in a distant second, with 11 percent of the vote. Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich finished third and fourth with 5.8 and 3.8 percent of the vote, respectively—together earning less support than the libertarian from Texas.

On the Democratic side, 429 Charlestown residents participated in Tuesday's primary. Of those, 342 (80 percent) of them voted for incumbent President Barack Obama, who was unopposed.
