Charlestown Student Lands Surprise Four-Year Tuition to Berklee

BOSTON, MA — Hats off to Charlestown student Junilda Diaz, on an unexpected, but exciting accomplishment.

The Boston Arts Academy student and bassist, who goes by Muñeca, was the surprise recipient of a full, four-year scholarship to the Berklee College of Music this Tuesday.

As the paper reports, the 18-year-old attended the Berklee City Music scholarship concert, thinking she was there just to perform and support her friends. But after playing, she unexpectedly heard her name announced — one of eight scholarship recipients.

Diaz told the paper she had "no idea" she'd receive the award, and said she ran to the front of the auditorium, excitedly screaming, "just like 'The Price is Right.'"
