The Easter Season continues throughout these glorious weeks. The Church urges us to listen to the refrains of the ALLELUIAS and let them touch our hearts!
In our time, attention spans are often limited to sound bites when something happens. Quickly we tire of the news and move on to the next event in our lives. Not so, Easter! This is an event that we need to savor and wonder about, for the implications are transforming and transcendent. Life and death are no longer the same and there is hope where once darkness reigned. Grasping and internalizing the Easter message can change how we think, live, and love. This Good News opens the window to joy, both in this life and into eternity.
This Sunday the Church calls us to meditate on and celebrate the Mercy of Jesus. Mercy seems a bit of an old fashioned word. We don’t use it in our daily speech, yet we all sort of know what it means: unmerited, unearned kindness and forgiveness. The focus on the Mercy of Jesus comes right after the triumph of Easter, as if to say, “And this is what the Resurrection means: death and darkness have been vanquished, sin no longer reigns and life eternal is open for us!”

Whenever our lives are touched by the unexpected and gratuitous kindness of another, it is a powerful and moving experience. For me, mercy not only makes me grateful, but also brings out the best of me. I want to imitate it with others and share the goodness of mercy. It is like mercy wants to be “multiplied”.
So, look around our beautiful church this weekend! It is full of the beauty and life of this most holy season. Breathe it in! Remember how you have known the boundless mercy of God not only in these days but also throughout your life.

Getting Ready for May
We are about to enter the beautiful month of May dedicated to Mary, the Mother of the Lord! It seems Boston always takes on springtime with special energy—this year, the more so, after the dreary start. In our Parish, May will be one of the busiest months on our calendar. There are a dozen baptisms scheduled and being planned, and there are weddings most weekends.
May 4 proves to be a full and enriching day. We have First Communions at 10:30, Baptisms at 1PM, and at 3PM, an event that everyone is invited to: the Gallagher Lecture with John Allen speaking on The Francis Effect. (Article and flier inside.) This event will be held in St. Mary Church. Please mark your calendar and invite family and friends to what promises to be a very informative and thought-provoking lecture. I look forward to welcoming you.
