Convicted Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Files Motion For New Trial

Convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his legal team filed a preliminary motion for a new trial in Federal Court on Monday.
“A new trial is required in the interests of justice and judgments notwithstanding the verdict are required as a matter of evidentiary insufficiency,” released court documents read.

The court documents indicate Tsarnaev filed the motion as a “placeholder” to address the court’s expressed concern about ensuring compliance with time and preservation requirements.
The court has granted Tsarnaev until August 17, 2015 to submit a post-trial motion.

Tsarnaev was formally sentenced to death by a federal judge back on June 24.
His actions left three people dead, 17 as amputees and 250 or so otherwise maimed or wounded at the 2013 running of the Boston Marathon.
