Five : Happy Boxing Day

And a note on another upcoming public meeting that may interest you.

Today is Monday, Dec. 26. Here are five things you need to know:

1. Warming, but not warm. Temperatures will start cold today, and warm to the low 40s. If you got a new coat for Christmas (I did!), today would be a good day to test it out.

2. Your Christmas photos. We’ve already gotten a couple photos, and we’ll post them in a couple of hours. Once the gallery is live, you can add your photos directly to it (without going through me) by clicking the “Upload Photos and Videos” button.

3. A heads up on content. Today, we’ll start our list of the top 50 stories of 2011. We’ll post ten stories each day until we reach our conclusion on Friday. Now, these stories have been chosen strictly on a traffic basis. That does not necessarily mean that they were the most important to you. Feel free to weigh in on each article telling us what you think were the most important Charlestown stories of the year.

4. 267 – 281 Medford Street (Nancy Sales Building) Development Meeting. The CNC Development Committee will be hosting a meeting for review of the proposed redevelopment plans for 267 – 281 Medford Street (Nancy Sales Building). This project was previously reviewed and approved by the CNC in 1995. As part of the revised proposal being submitted for review, the developer is seeking additional Zoning variances. The meeting will occur at 7 pm at the Charlestown High School Auditorium, on Thursday, Jan. 19. It is anticipated that the project will be requesting final approval from the Zoning Board of Appeal in February.

5. A holiday for our (sometimes former) British cousins. In U.K, Ireland, New Zealand and a handful of other Commonwealth countries, today is Boxing Day. As tradition has it, it’s how wealthy British aristocrats thanked their servants for Christmas running smoothly. It has, however, outgrown those roots.
