Five Things to Know: New Officials Sworn In, Charlestown Coalition to Meet and more

And the cold weather deepens.

Today is Wednesday, Jan. 4. Here are five things you need to know:

1. It’s going to be cold. Temperatures today are slated to top out around 28, but will spend the morning below the 20-degree mark. The wind won’t help, either.

2. Two school officials appointed. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino the appointment of a new  member, Meg Campbell, and the reappointment of another member, to four-year terms.

3. New state ethics enforcer. Governor Deval Patrick announced the appointment of litigator William J. “B.J.” Trach to a five-year term on the State Ethics Commission. Trach replaces outgoing Commissioner David L. Veator, and is a partner in the litigation department of Goodwin Procter in Boston.

4. City Council will not meet today. The group met Monday for its ceremony, when City Councilor Stephen Murphy urged the developer interested in building a casino in Eastie to first “” in Downtown Crossing.

5. Charlestown Waterfront Coalition to meet. The Charlestown Waterfront Coalition at Building 114 on the first Wednesday of every month at 7 PM.
