Five Things: Last In-Town Meeting on Medford Street Project

Today is Thursday, Jan. 18. Here are five things you need to know:

1. Wear a warm coat, with layers underneath. Weather.com includes a “feels like” temperature with prediction. Why do I tell you that? Because, if you happen to have an early start tomorrow morning, it will “feel like” it’s six degrees outside. Six. It will warm up later, but we’re not going to get past the freezing point. Also, we may see snow showers.

2. Big game for Townies basketball. Charlestown High School’s squad will take on Madison Park today. The Townies are currently 6-2, and aiming to stay atop the Boston City League.

3. Last in-town meeting for Medford Street project. The CNC Development Committee tonight will host a to review of the proposed redevelopment plans for 267 – 281 Medford Street (Nancy Sales Building). This project was previously reviewed and approved by the CNC in 1995. As part of the revised proposal being submitted for review, the developer is seeking additional Zoning variances.  The meeting will occur at 7 pm at the Charlestown High School Auditorium. It is anticipated that the project will be requesting final approval from the Zoning Board of Appeal in February of 2012.

4. Sports on Charlestown Live. This week's program will feature host Al Carrier who will be talking about all that is sports in Charlestown, such as non-profit programs, upcoming registration information, what's happening at the Boys and Girls Club, baseball, lacrosse, football and hockey.

5. 200 years later. The USS Constitution Museum will host a by Professor Robert Allison, Chair of the History Department at Suffolk University as he discusses the War of 1812. The lecture will be followed by a conversation and light appetizers and drinks.
