Five Things: Local Honored for Parenting
And Navy Yard meeting about street sweeping.

Today is Wednesday, Jan. 11. Here are five things you need to know:
1. Warm-ish. For winter, anyway. Highs up the upper 30s. The skies will start clear, but likely cloud a bit as the day progresses. Light to moderate winds.
2. A local gets honored. Mishawum park resident Jolene Hernandez was recently named Smart from the Start Parent of the Year. Hernandez was chosen out of hundreds of Smart from the Start participants citywide for her outstanding leadership in the program and the community. Smart from the Start works with families and communities in the City of Boston to promote school readiness and to prevent the achievement gap among Boston's next generation of children.

3. New police methods coming? City Council meets today, and, among other things, the council will vote on whether or not the city should hold a hearing on the potential implementation of community policing in the city.
4. Street sweeping in the Navy Yard? The Charlestown Neighborhood Council and the Friends of the Charlestown Navy Yard will host a tonight regarding the City of Boston’s proposal to institute a street sweeping program in the Charlestown Navy Yard commencing in the Spring of 2012. The meeting will be held at the Constitution Inn – 5th floor – from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

5. A little off from our northern neighbors. Charlestown Patch hosted a yesterday on which of the candidates you would have voted for in yesterday’s New Hampshire primary. Your verdict? Ron Paul. Paul notably finished second. The person who our readers picked second, Mitt Romney, finished first.
