Flag Day in Charlestown

June 14th is flag day. Veterans, community leaders and Charlestown residents join together.

Flag Day was observed in Charlestown. The American Legion Flag Disposal Ceremony was performed by members of Post 26 in Charlestown under the direction of committee chairman and incoming Sr. Vice Commander William Boyle

Acting as Commander for the ceremony was State Secretary of Veterans Affairs Francesco Urena. State Representative Daniel Ryan also joined in and addressed those gathered. Stanley Leonard of the Lincoln Post, Memorial Hall tended the fire.

Three flags were ceremonially burned a flag from St Francis Vestibule, a flag flown by the Rinnaldis of Charlestown for 50 years gifted to them by a Gold Star mother whose son died in Vietnam and the post flag from Memorial Hall. Another 200 flags are to be disposed of by a group headed by Tom Coots of the Charlestown Militia and the Cooperative Bank
