Help Paint the Town Red, White, Blue!

The Townie Association wants to get Charlestown ready for parade day.

The annual Bunker Hill Day Parade is Sunday, June 10th 2012, starting at the corner of Vine and Chelsea Streets. The Parade goes through the streets of Charlestown and commemorates the 237th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill.

“Paint the Town: Red, White, & Blue!” is an effort to increase local pride in the Bunker Hill Day Parade by providing Charlestown with a patriotic and festive environment.

We are encouraging those who live within Charlestown to participate in our campaign “Paint the Town: Red, White, & Blue!” in order to help us boost excitement for the parade.

What we are asking neighbors who reside in Charlestown to do is to decorate their houses with an All-American patriotic theme. Some ideas include using patriotic bunting, red, white, or blue streamers, ribbons and bows, or flying an American/Bunker Hill flag. Residents could also decorate with things that symbolize Charlestown or represent Townie culture. We are asking you to be creative, as it is your property. We kindly ask that you participate in our efforts.

We suggest leaving decorations up for Parade Week (the week leading up to Parade Day until the 17th of June – the anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill), but keeping decorations up just for Parade Day will be appreciated. Team up with your neighbors and make your houses as celebratory as possible. Many residents already partake in the celebration and make their houses very festive. We thank you for doing so and encourage you to spread the cheerful ambiance.

If you are new to the Town, we are inviting you to enjoy the festivities and watch the parade.

By adorning your houses with Parade Day decorations, it will amplify interest and community pride in the Bunker Hill Day Parade. Festive visibility is a vital part to a town’s celebration. If you have walked around Charlestown this past week, many businesses and houses are already preparing for the parade with their decorations, please join the cause. Many military units will be marching in Charlestown on Sunday; please honor them by showing your patriotism.

On the morning of the parade, be sure to check out the Parade Route, we have a surprise!

Thank you for your consideration in keeping the Parade tradition alive!

Slainte!
