Higher Fines, No Tow; Charlestown Street Cleaning Program Permanent

The City of Boston announced that Charlestown's pilot street cleaning program, implemented in July 2015, is now permanent.

CHARLESTOWN, MA - Those increased parking fines are here to stay, but at least there won't be any more towing.

The City of Boston announced that Charlestown's pilot street cleaning program is now permanent. The program, implemented in July 2015, means vehicles parked in violation of street cleaning regulations in Charlestown will not be towed, but instead be subject to an increased fine.

Offending vehicles can received a parking ticket fine of $90; the fine was $40 under the old system.

"I’d like to thank Charlestown residents for their willingness to pilot this modified street cleaning program in their neighborhood,” said Boston Transportation Commissioner Gina N. Fiandaca in a statement. "Thanks to their cooperation, the pilot has been successfully completed and we are pleased to be moving forward with these enforcement updates designed to help keep Charlestown’s streets clean."
