The inspiration and motivation for committing to the Pan-Mass Challenge came after experiencing this event last summer when I went to support my dad and uncle who completed the PMC.
The energy from the riders, volunteers, and supporters for this event was truly contagious. Fast forward six months, I committed to raising money for cancer research, bought my first road bike, and begun a training regimen to prepare for my first “bike-a-thon.”
Personally, cancer has struck close to home many times in my life and it is heart wrenching to observe the hardships and obstacles that cancer patients have to battle. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago and is doing well after multiple surgeries and daily medications, but my aunt and best friend’s father, among many others who have touched my life, have passed away after their battles with cancer.
