MGH Institute Graduate Students to Help Charlestown Residents at Sept. 19 Community Day

More than 400 first-year students in nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology will work with more than 35 non-profit groups in and around Boston during the MGH Institute of Health Professions 3rd annual Community Day (#mghihpcd14) on Friday, September 19.
Part of the Charlestown Navy Yard health sciences graduate school’s community-service initiative, Community Day will also include faculty and staff volunteers. Teams of five to eight students will work in Charlestown and other neighborhoods and cities including the North End, the West End, Roxbury, the South End, Jamaica Plain, the Fenway, Beacon Hill, Bay Village, and Cambridge.
Activities include health walks with the elderly, health promotion strategies, neighborhood park cleanups, preparing meals, parent education about early literacy, exercises/stretching with public school students, volleyball, and several children’s events.
