Fire officials responded to a hazmat situation at a Salvation Army store in Chelsea Monday afternoon after learning of sick workers and customers inside the building on Broadway Street.
Folks inside the store complained about vomiting and felt unusual sensations in their throats, but firefighters say they found nothing out of the ordinary when they arrived at 456 Broadway Street.
After leaving the scene, officials returned to the Salvation Army when they recieved a call that voiced simialar complaints. Again they were unable to determine a cause for the sudden onset of illness, resulting in the store’s closure for the day.
The store reopened for business on Tuesday only to be shut down early again. Firefighters say they were again baffled and proceeded to phone the Department of Health. Hazmat crews immediately cleared the scene.
The Department of Health will be heading up an ivestigation into the matter. It’s unclear if the store will open Wednesday.
