Retirement in Massachusetts: Where You Want To Be?

The Bay State didn't score well in a recent WalletHub study on the best and worst places to retire.

If you’re thinking about retirement, you might also want to think about moving.

WalletHub ranked Massachusetts 39th out of 51 (including the District of Columbia) on their ‘Best and Worst States to Retire’.

The project considered affordability, quality of life, and health care. Massachusetts ranked high in quality of life (eighth) and health care (seventh), but was 46th in affordability.

Florida was the top state.

  • Adjusted cost of living.
  • WalletHub’s ‘Taxpayer’ rankings.
  • Taxation on pensions and social security income.
  • Annual cost on in-home services.

Some of the things Massachusetts has going for it is top-five rankings in highest life expectancy and most museums per capita.

But bottom-five rankings in annual cost of in-home services and property crime rate bring the Bay State down.
