MA Weather Forecast: Flash Flood Watch; Severe Storms Possible

This morning will see some of the heaviest downpours and potential for severe thunderstorms.

As if you didn't know it was going to rain - and rain hard - today, a flash flood watch has been issued from Springfield to Boston. The watch, which comes as areas in Central and Eastern Massachusetts expect up to 2-3 inches of rain along with thunderstorms, expires at 8 p.m. Thursday.

A flood advisory was issued around 10:30 a.m. along the I-95 and Route 128 corridors. That is in effect until noon.

The rainfall is expected to come in the form of serious downpours that could drop 2+ inches an hour, leading to potential flooding in urban and poor drainage areas. The power of the storms is also something to keep an eye on: "Thunderstorms this morning & later today could be strong, potentially severe, w/ embedded threats of isolated strong to damaging winds, including a non-zero threat of a brief tornado," the National Weather Service said.
