Save The Ferry Encourages You to Speak Tonight

Others ask you to help in Hingham.

A group of Charlestown residents urge you to join them at 4:30 a.m. at the Transportation building today to show your objection to the MBTA’s .

“A strong turn-out will show the MBTA how important the ferry is to us,” a representative of Save the Charlestown Ferry wrote on the group’s Facebook wall.

Core members of the group, including Jennifer Schultz, said in an email this weekend that they plan to present a petition signed by more than 300 residents who want the MBTA to save the ferry.

“It would be great to show the MBTA how many people disagree with their short-sighted proposals,” Schultz said.  “Please come. Make signs; sign up to speak at the meeting!  Don't let the MBTA ignore Charlestown and the Navy Yard!”

Tonight’s meeting is one of several . Recent meetings in Newton and have drawn large crowds and have reflected an to the transit authority’s proposed service cuts.

Facebook user Martha A. R. Bewick also encouraged those concerned with the proposed eliminatino of the ferry to  "Come on down to Hingham on February 8 as well, where the case for the Hull and Hingham and Quincy ferries will be presented to the MBTA. Take the boat down, and we'll get you back to the Red Line after the hearing (or back to the Quincy ferry.)"
