Street Sweeping to Change in April
Sweeping will now be after trash day and will include the Navy Yard.

The following was sent to us by the Mayor's Department. It has been edited only for format.
The Boston Public Works Department (PWD) will be implementing a new schedule of street sweeping days for some portions of the Charlestown neighborhood starting in April of 2012. In addition, most of the Navy Yard streets will be added to the Posted Street Sweeping program.
The goal of the alterations is to provide mechanical street sweeping services to more closely follow the Wednesday residential trash collection day. Currently, some portions of Charlestown have to wait several days for street sweeping following residential trash and recycling collection.

- The impacted areas are generally bordered by Main Street to the Prison Bridge and also Medford Street to the harbor. Please refer to www.cityofboston.gov/publicworks for a full list of the streets and changes.
- Approximately 40% of Charlestown currently has posted street sweeping on Tuesday, the day before trash collection, and PWD will change that sweeping day to Thursday. This will alleviate much of the litter generated by the weekly residential trash collection in a faster and more efficient manner.
- This will affect the days of sweeping but not the current posted hours. Most of Charlestown will not be affected by any changes.
- Several streets that continue to have posted street sweeping on Wednesdays will have trash collected earlier in the morning. Please have all residential trash/recycling at curbside by 7:00AM. This generally occurs in the Monument Square, City Square, and Thompson Square areas.
- The Boston Transportation Department is making the necessary changes to the posted sweeping signs on the affected streets to reflect the street sweeping days which will begin on April 2, 2012. Please refer to the posted signs on your street and immediate neighborhood prior to April 2.
- Residents can assist by observing the posted regulations and following the guidelines for proper trash and recycling placement at curbside. Comprehensive Public Works information is available at www.cityofboston.gov/publicworks. Residents can also register for street sweeping notifications by accessing the NO-TOW link at that web site. They can also contact the Mayor’s Hotline at 617-635-4500 for sweeping information.
- This effort is also being conducted in 10 other neighborhoods across the City.
The Boston Publics Works Department is continuing to explore more effective means of basic City service delivery in your neighborhood.
