Traffic Guidelines: Bunker Hill Day Parade, Race

What you need to know before the Bunker Hill Day Parade and Battle of Bunker Hill Road Race.

Boston, MA - Two annual events will tangle traffic this weekend in Charlestown, expected to draw more than 1,500 near Bunker Hill. 

Here's what you need to know:

According to the city, an estimated 1,500 participants will gather on Constitution Road, Chelsea Street, Hunter Street and Decatur Street at 12:30 p.m. for the annual Bunker Hill Day Parade.

The following streets along the route will be closed as a result: 

  • Vine Street
  • Bunker Hill Street
  • Main Street
  • Union Street
  • Washington Street
  • Harvard Street 
  • Pleasant Street
  • Warren Street
  • Monument Avenue
  • High Street 
  • Green street
  • Bartlett Street
  • Monument Square
  • Winthrop Street
  • Common Street
  • Park Street

There will also be a number of temporary “Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Sunday” parking restrictions in effect:

  • Vine Street, both sides, from Chelsea Street to Bunker Hill Street
  • Bunker Hill Street, both sides, from Vine Street to Main Street
  • Main Street, both sides, from Bunker Hill Street to Union Street
  • Union Street, both sides, from Main Street to Washington Street
  • Washington Street, both sides from Union Street to Harvard Street
  • Harvard Street, both sides, from Washington Street to Main Street
  • Pleasant Street, both sides, from Main Street to Warren Street
  • Warren Street, both sides, from Pleasant Street to Monument Avenue
  • Monument Avenue, both sides, from Warren Street to Monument Square
  • Monument Square, both sides, from Monument Avenue to Pleasant Street
  • High Street, both sides, from Pleasant Street to Elm Street
  • Green Street, both sides, from High Street to Bartlett Street
  • Bartlett Street, both sides, from Green Street to Monument Square
  • Monument Square, both sides, from Concord Street to Lexington Street, and, both sides, from Lexington Street to Winthrop Street
  • Winthrop Street, both sides, from #49-50 Monument Square to Common Street
  • Common Street, Training Field side, from Winthrop Street to Park Street
  • Hunter Street, both sides, from Bunker Hill Street to Vine Street
  • Decatur Street, both sides, from Vine Street to #50 Decatur Street
  • Moulton Street, both sides, from Bunker Hill Street to Vine Street
  • Bunker Hill Street, both sides, from Tufts Street to Lowney Way
  • Chelsea Street, both sides, from Fifth Street (gate #4) to Medford Street

Also Sunday, around 200 runners will gather at the Boys and Girls Club on High Street at 10:30 a.m. for the Battle of Bunker Hill Road Race, the city said. Streets along that route will also be closed to cars during the race. That route includes parts of: 

  • High Street
  • Winthrop Street
  • Warren Street
  • Main Street
  • Bunker Hill Street
  • Lowney Way
  • Adams Street
  • Common Street
  • Park Street 
  • Warren Street
  • Monument Avenue
  • Monument Square

The finish line is at High Street and Wood Street.
