Witness Who Refused to Testify in Morrissey Shooting Sentenced

Daniel Goggin will spend two years in a state correctional facility.

A Charlestown man was sentenced to two years in a state correctional facility for refusing to testify during a grand jury investigation into the 2014 murder of Ryan Morrissey, according to the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.

Daniel Goggin pleaded guilty to one count of contempt of court Tuesday as his trial was set to begin. Last year Goggin appeared in front of a grand jury three separate times, where prosecutors asked him to give a statement about the November 2014 shooting that claimed the life of Morrissey and injured his friend.

After initially invoking his fifth amendment right and receiving immunity he repeatedly declined to speak in front of the jury. He received charges of civil contempt from the judge each time he refused to testify and was later indicted by prosecutors for criminal contempt.
