UDPATE: Shooting Reported Near MIT Campus
Initial reports that an active shooter was on the MIT campus were unfounded.

A shooting at Portland and Main Street in Cambridge prompted an active shooter alert that was sent out by MIT Police.
In an alert to students, the university later said there was no active shooter on campus. Portland and Main Street is located right off the MIT campus.
Those on campus were advised to evacuate if possible or seek shelter.

According to Cambridge Police, a 25-year-old woman was shot and suffered a gunshot injury to her leg. She was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The woman was identified as a Roxbury resident.
At the time of the incident, there was a large group of people in the area attending the Cambridge Carnival, a celebration that is attended by thousands of people. When the gunshot rang out, some people began to run, police said.

Police are continuing to search for the suspect who remains at large. The suspect is not believed to be on campus.
