$5 Felines to Continue at Lowell Humane Society

The next event will be on Oct. 12.

The following was submitted to Chelmsford Patch by the Lowell Humane Society.

In the final month of the ASPCA $100K Challenge The Lowell Humane Society is ramping up adoption specials to send more animals to loving homes. On Saturday, October 8th from noon-4pm the staff will be sending home pocket pets with just a $5 adoption fee! All hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rats and mice are eligible to go home at the discounted rate.

On Wednesday, October 12th from noon-8pm the staff will host another of their $5 Feline Adoption Events, sending home adult cats for a $5 adoption fee. All cats will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and will go home with a collar and bag of food. All adoptions subject to an approved adoption application, the Humane Society will start accepting applications for pre-approval on Thursday, October 6th. These adoption events are key to meeting their goal of 600 adoptions during the challenge which runs August 1st –October 31st. The staff hopes to send 75 cats and dogs home each week this month to reach their goal.

In addition to cats, dogs and small pocket pets, the shelter has recently been inundated with rabbits, many of which were abandoned in local parking lots left to fend for themselves. The humane society staff is happy to spend time introducing families to the many rabbits available for adoption and help prepare for adopting one of these wonderful animals. The rabbit adoption fee is just $65 and includes spay/neuter surgery, which usually costs upwards of $300.

Can’t adopt? You can help our local shelter win the ASPCA $25,000 Community Engagement award by voting for their shelter every day from October 17th-31st at www.votetosavelives.org.
