An Arbor Day Gift for Chelmsford
This article describes the ceremony of the Chelmsford Garden Club donating a Kwanzan Cherry Tree in honor of Arbor Day.
In honor of Arbor Day the Chelmsford Garden Club planted a Kwanzan Cherry Tree in front of the Town Offices on April 24. The Kwanzan Cherry Tree comes from China and has been called the “Queen of Flowering Trees” for its beautiful pink blossoms and leaves that change color every season. The tree does not produce any fruit. The presentation of the tree was conducted by Ms. Catherine Crawford and Ms. Linda Giordano, Arbor Day Co-Chairs. The boy scouts from Troop 77 opened the program with the pledge to the flag. Town Manager, Paul Cohen, read an Official Proclamation of Arbor Day and James Giordano read a poem. Present at the ceremony were club members, members of Boy Scout Troop 77, town officials, the Tree Committee and other citizens. The Club hopes that this beautiful tree will bring pleasure to the residents of Chelmsford for many years to come.
