UPDATE: Winter Storm Warning in Effect Tonight

The National Weather Service has increased potential snowfall amounts.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning starting at 6 p.m. today and lasting until 8 a.m. Sunday for the area.

NWS is warning that this early season storm could bring “damaging heavy wet snow” tonight. A mix of rain and snow will hit the area from southwest to northeast starting this afternoon.

Three to seven inches of snow is predicted for the Chelmsford area.

The precipitation should change over to snow by this evening with snow falling heavy at times.

NWS said the heavy wet snow coupled with winds of 15 to 25 mph may cause tree damage and scattered power outages and untreated roadways may become slippery.
