Massachusetts Sheep and Woolcraft Fair

The annual MA Sheep and Wool Fest is happening Memorial Day weekend in Cummington - a family-friendly fun event.

Over the past few years there's been a lot of talk about "staycations."  Since when has staying local and participating in local activities been looked down on -- so much so that we have to come up with a fancy name for it?  I was horrified just this week when I heard an ad on the radio for a credit union - actually encouraging people to come in and borrow money for a vacation!  Are they crazy?

We certainly aren't going on any vacations this year (and aren't ashamed to admit it).  But that doesn't mean we sit at home feeling sorry for ourselves.

This weekend is the annual Massachusetts Sheep and Woolcraft Fair, held every Memorial Day weekend out in Cummington (20 miles west of Northampton).  Not only do lots of young people show their sheep, but there are interesting demonstrations, and booths and booths of vendors selling all sorts of fiber related items - fresh fleeces, yarn, gadgets, spinning wheels, and more.

The fairgrounds are compact and mostly paved, so walking and getting around is easy.  Food is available and restroom facilities are easily accessible.
