Watertown High School Receives $500 From Middlesex DA's Office

The school was one of 20 to be given money to fund substance-free after-prom and graduation events.

Watertown High School was one of 20 Middlesex County high schools to receive $500 from the District Attorney’s Office to fund substance-free after-prom and graduation events, according to a press release.

In total, the District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office provided $10,500 to Middlesex County high schools for these events.

“Our goal is always to help school districts offer safe after prom and graduation activities so the memories teenagers will have of their parties, dances, and commencement will be about experiences which were enjoyable and safe,” Ryan stated in the press release.

Ryan also has encouraged teens at school assemblies to make “safe choices” at parties and events. She also has warned parents about serving underage drinkers. Under the state’s Social Host Law, adults can be charged with furnishing alcohol to minors and face up to a year in jail and fines of as much as $2,000.

Other high schools that received funding were Chelmsford High School, Melrose High School, Stoneham High School and Wakefield Memorial High School.
