Chelmsford Man Involved in Pedestrian Accident in Somerville

Accident happened just before 7 p.m. Wednesday night.

Two pedestrians were struck Wednesday evening in separate crashes on Rte. 28 in Somerville, near Assembly Square, one involved a Chelmsford man.

At about 5:40 p.m., Kaleigh P. Fitzgerald, 28, of Hanover, driving a 2013 Toyota Carolla, hit a 29-year-old Somerville woman in front of Somerville District Court, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The victim, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, police said. She is in critical condition.

While police were investigating the first crash, at about 6:50 p.m., Jason J. Cormier, 21, of Chelmsford, driving a 2013 Chevrolet pickup, struck a 20-year-old Somerville man about 200 yards away. The victim, whose name is also being withheld, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital as well.

Both crashes remain under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
