Chelmsford Man Indicted on Charges of Defrauding Federal Disabled Veterans Program

Chelmsford resident David Gorski was charged in federal court on Tuesday following allegations that he lied about being a disabled veteran in order to obtain funding from the U.S. Government for his small business.

Gorski, 47, faces charges of defrauding the United States, and four counts of wire fraud in relation to his alleged role in attempting to obtain funding for a business he co-owns, Legion Construction, as a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business.

The indictment from the U.S. Department of Justice against Gorski details an alleged scheme to utilize disabled veterans to serve nominally as majority owners in his company in order to obtain the funding, offering compensation to several unnamed veterans even though they did not actually work for the company, let alone act as the highest paid employee of the company per federal regulations.

Gorski also allegedly put his wife on the payroll of the company to conceal the payments being made to the veterans, even though at the time she was an employee of the Town of Chelmsford.

If convicted, Gorski faces up to 20 years in prison on the wire fraud charges and up to five years in prison on the conspiracy to defraud charge, to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine on each count.
