According to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD), Chelmsford's workforce decreased from 18,109 in October to 17,975 with approximately 20 fewer unemployed individuals, keeping the town's unemployment rate at 5.1 percent. Statewide, the unemployment rate for November was 6.1 percent, down from 6.2 percent in October, and 6.4 percent compared to November 2011. Among Chelmsford's neighbors, Billerica (5.4 to 5.2),  Carlisle (4.2 to 3.7),  Westford (5.2 to 5.1) and Tyngsborough (6.2 to 5.9) all saw drops in unemployment as well from October to November according to the EOLWD announcement, while Lowell (8.2 to 8.2) remained steady.
