Eichel is projected by many hockey experts to be a top two NHL draft selection this June, according to a press release on HobeyBaker.com. Additionally, he captained the U.S. team in the most recent World Junior tournament held in Canada.
The 18-year-old was the Hockey East scoring champion, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, First Team Hockey East and a member of the All-Rookie Team. He was also named Most Valuable Player at the Hockey East playoff tournament.
Eichel also led the nation in assists, power play goals (22) and plus-minus (+49).
Hobey Baker Memorial Award nominees are chosen with these four areas in mind:
- Strength of character, on and off the ice
- Contribution to the integrity of the team and outstanding skills in all phases of the game
- Scholastic achievement and sportsmanship
- Compliance with all NCAA rules, including being a full-time student in an accredited college or university and completing 50 percent or more of the season
