Annual town election

Chelmsford Town Clerk, Onorina Maloney, wishes to remind Chelmsford voters that the Annual Town Election will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012. The annual Town Election is a non-partisan election; therefore, all registered voters regardless of their party affiliation or designation, are eligible to vote. 

 The Town Clerk, in conjunction with the Board of Registrars, will conduct a special voter session on Wednesday, March 14, from 9 am to 8 pm in the Clerk’s Office at the Town Offices Building located at 50 Billerica Road Chelmsford residents who are US Citizens, are the age of eighteen or will attain the age of eighteen by the March 14 deadline are eligible to register to vote.  The deadline to obtain an absentee ballot will be Monday, April 2 at noon.  Voters are eligible to vote by absentee ballot if they are unable to come to the polls in person on Election Day due to an absence from the Town of Chelmsford during polling hours; have a physical disability that prevents them from going to the polling place or for religious belief.  Absentee ballots for the April 3 Annual Town Election will be available by the third week in March. Absentee ballot applications are available from the Office of the Town Clerk or by going on line to:

The polls will be open from 7 am to 8 pm.  Precincts 1 and 9 vote at the Town Office Building Gym located at 50 Billerica Road; Precincts 2 and 3 vote at the Harrington School Gym located at 120 Richardson Road; Precincts 4 and 6 vote at the Westlands School Gym located at 170 Dalton Road; Precinct 5 votes at the Byam School Gym located at 25 maple Road and Precincts 7 and 8 vote at the McCarthy Middle School Little Gym located at 250 North Road. Voters are reminded that due to the Federal Census re-districting, they will be voting for 18 Town Meeting Representatives per precinct.  Per Town Charter Section 2-4: “The first third in order of votes received shall serve for three years; the second third of such order shall serve for two years and the remaining third in such order shall serve for one year from the date of the annual town election.”     A list of the candidates, both for Town Wide and Town Meeting Representatives, is available on the town website:  http://www.townofchelmsford.us/

Candidates and supporters are reminded that according to MGL Ch. 54 §65 signs are allowed at the polling place as long as they are outside the 150-foot radius around the entrance of the polling place. In addition, signs must not obstruct vehicle or pedestrian traffic.  Posters, cards, handbills, placards, pictures or circulars intended to influence the action of the voter are also not permitted within the 150-foot radius.
