Jazz First with Vocalist Pamela Smith • www.jazzfirstmusic.com
Jazz First believes in the Great American Songbook, and feels those tunes should be preserved. Thus, the repertoire consists of jazz versions of this very listenable music by the masters (Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers, Strayhorn, etc.) written primarily in the first half of the twentieth century, with lyrical improvisations inserted for variety. At its core is a trio with Joe Whalen on piano, Chris Guild on bass, and Dave Morin on drums. Tonight’s presentation adds the vocal stylings of Pamela Smith, who has been singing all her life and grooves on the wonderful songs found in the Great American Songbook. The group released a CD of jazz standards in 2008, “Jazz at the Supper Club, ‘08”, with vocalists Debbie Nordyke and Amanda Hall.
