Japanese Company to Buy Zoll Medical Corp.

Asahi Kasei Corp., a Japanese company that makes synthetic fibers and industrial chemicals, will buy Chelmsford's Zoll Medical Corp. for $2.2 billion, according to Bloomberg.com.

Asahi will use Zoll to expand in critical-care products for hospitals and grow sales in Asia, according to the article.

Zoll makes devices used in ambulances and hospitals to revive patients whose hearts have stopped, the company said in a statement today. Asahi will pay $93 a share for the company, which is 24 percent higher than Zoll’s closing price of $75.10 on March 9.
