Affordable Housing Forum is Tonight

The Affordable Housing Public Forum is tonight at the Chelmsford Police Station.

Tonight the will make a presentation and host a discussion about affordable housing and potential planning ideas for it in town.

The committee will answer questions about what affordable housing is, why it is needed and what the challenges are in creating it. Speakers will also discuss the locations for possible affordable housing in Chelmsford.

Community Development Director Evan Belansky said at tonight's forum, residents will see why the town should be planning for affordable housing.

"It's most important so the committee can hear the opinions and viewpoints and perspectives from the residents and ultimately, if the town chooses to, proactively plan for affordable housing, it needs to be a plan that’s well received by the community," he said.

Belansky said while affordable housing can sometimes come with stigma, the stigma in town is no different than it is in the rest of the state.

"It's not as if the town hasn’t been committed to building affordable housing, particularly with the ," he said. "Town Meeting has a very successful track record."
