Lowell Ax, Pipe Attack: Suspect Arrested

Lowell police said a man was attacked with an ax and a metal pipe. Thanom Thondoarom, 49, ​of Lowell, was charged in the incident.

LOWELL, MA — A Lowell man was recently attacked with an ax and a metal pipe by several men, police announced Wednesday. A suspect — Thanom Thondoarom, 49, of Lowell — was arrested and charged with assault and assault on a person over the age of 60. Police said the victim is 62.

Police said they launched an investigation Tuesday at about 10:30 p.m. after receiving a report of an assault.

"Upon arriving (officers) found a (victim) with multiple wounds to his head and face," police said in a statement. "The victim reported being attacked inside an apartment by several men, one armed with a metal pipe and another with an (ax)."

The victim was transported to Lowell General Hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

"Additional suspects are wanted in this assault and the investigation continues," police said.
