Matt Hanson Elected BOS Chairman
Pat Wojtas elected vice chairman; Janet Askenburg elected clerk.
After collecting 2,084 votes in Tuesday’s election, Matt Hanson was elected chairman of the Chelmsford Board of Selectmen during its brief meeting on Wednesday evening.
“We did it! Thank you to everyone who supported my re-election campaign! I am looking forward to representing you for another three years,” Hanson said via his Twitter account.
According to Hanson’s website, his goals in his next term include securing improvements to Vinal Square and Chelmsford Center, overseeing of a new fire station and DPW facility, and pursuing tax relief, recreational space and historic preservation opportunities.

With 342 votes, Hanson was also elected to a three year term as Precinct 1 Town Meeting Representative.
Hanson was elected chairman of the board unanimously by his peers. He attended Chelmsford High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Regional Economic and Social Development, each from UMASS-Lowell.

Hanson also serves as a member of the Northern Middlesex Council of Governments.
Pat Wojtas was elected vice chairman, also unanimously, by her peers. She was re-elected to the Board of Selectmen just over one year ago.
Wojtas replaces Hanson, who served as the previous vice chairman. She also attended Chelmsford High School, and continued her education at UMASS-Amherst where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree.
Janet Askenburg earned 1,699 votes in Tuesday’s election to earn a seat on the Board of Selectmen. She narrowly beat out Pat Maloney whose 1,643 votes came up just short.
Askenburg, also the School Committee chairwoman, was unanimously elected clerk of the board by her peers.
