National Public Lands Day is Popping Up in Lowell, Sept 27!

Celebrate America's special places -- including Lowell -- with a day of free fun, a Pop Up Museum, and free admission to the Boott Mills.

Come explore Lowell National Historical Park, connect with your neighbors at the Pop Up Museum, and enjoy free admission to the Boott Cotton Mills Museum on Saturday, September 27! National Public Lands Day is all about celebrating our nation’s special places -- including Lowell, its dynamic past, and vibrant present.

Family fun kicks off at 10AM at the Visitor Center with Your City Saturdays. We’ll have special arts, crafts, and music for families with kids ages 3-9. Afterwards, ride the trolley to the Boott Mills!

What makes a place special, worth preserving or remembering? What sorts of places are most important to you? Stop in at our Pop Up Museum outside the Boott Cotton Mills from 12PM-3PM to take part in a lively exploration on the theme of Special Places. What is a Pop Up Museum? It’s a temporary exhibit, created by you and your neighbors -- a community show and tell for all ages:

  • Bring a personal object, story, or photo connected to the theme “Special Places.”
  • Stop by our Pop Up Museum, show and share the story behind your object, and check out some of the other things -- including pieces of Lowell’s history -- on display.
  • Talk with park staff and your neighbors about the places that are important to us.

Want a more permanent museum experience? Don’t miss free admission to the Boott Cotton Mills, all day long on Public Lands Day, September 27. Experience the roar of a 1920s weave room and hands-on exhibits exploring Lowell’s extraordinary industrial legacy. While you’re here, discover two centuries of hard work and innovative engineering on a ranger led Canal Tour (fees apply).
