Key Races

Scott Brown (R), Elizabeth Warren (D): U.S. Senate

Scott Brown has represented Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate since a January 2010 special election held to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the late Ted Kennedy. Brown defeated state Attorney General Martha Coakley with 1,168,107 votes, or 51.9 percent, to her 1,058,682 votes, or 47.1 percent.

Niki Tsongas (D), Jon Golnik (R): Third Congressional District

Niki Tsongas has been representing Chelmsford since 2007, when she won a special election replace Marty Meehan, who resigned to Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.

She faces off against Jon Golnik, a Republican from Carlisle.

In 2010, Tsongas defeated Golnik by a margin of 54 to 42 percent.

Jim Arciero (D), Val Wormell (R): Second Middlesex House District

Arciero has been in house since January 2009, following his victory over Littleton Republican Paul Avella, earning the chance to represent Littleton, Westford and

He did not face an opponent in 2010. This year he faces Westford Selectman Val Wormell.

Polls open at 7 a.m. - We'll be at the polls throughout the day providing sporadic updates. If you hear anything from the polls, please let us know in the comments section! Update 7:05 a.m. - There are dozens of voters at the Reilly School in Lowell, Congresswoman Niki Tsongas has just cast her vote there. We will try to get to Carlisle to get pictures of her challenger Jon Golnik if we have time.

8:05 a.m. - Voter turnout update -- Precinct 1 reports 234 voters, Precinct 9 reports 226.

8:45 a.m. - Voter turnout update -- Precinct 6 reports 441 voters, Precinct 4 reports 292. Heading to the Byam School!

9:20 a.m. - About 500 voters so far at Precinct 5. Averaging about 200 voters per hour so far everywhere, give or take. 

9:40 a.m. - Diane Gray reports on the Chelmsford Patch Facebook page that she was voter number 601 in Precinct 6.  

11:00 a.m. - 1012 votes cast at Precinct 6 according to Phebe Rand, again on Facebook.

11:30 a.m. - Just under a thousand votes a piece so far at the McCarthy School for Precincts 7 and 8 (953 in 7, 954 in 8).  

11:45 a.m. - Over at the Harrington School, approximately 703 votes so far in Precinct 2, 933 at Precinct 3. Voting machine got jammed for a second, but it was cleared up quickly.

Also, there are munchkins outside!

12:30 p.m. -  The line at the Harrington School is gone according to Danielle Marie on our Facebook page. Tara McMaster Dufresne replies that there was a big line there earlier on. Meanwhile at the McCarthy School, Derek Hartley says he had to park a third of a mile away and wait 20 minutes to vote. 

7:46 p.m. - Just came back to the McCarthy School, 2226 voters so far in Precinct 8 and 2290 in Precinct 7. If those numbers hold steady across town, it will be approximately 80 percent voter turnout.
