Recycling Committee Takes Over Greener Chelmsford Initiative

The program is meant to recognize local businesses who make efforts to be more environmentally friendly.

Selectmen Monday night agreed to allow the Recycling Committee to take responsibility of the Greener Chelmsford Initiative, a program meant to recognize local businesses who make efforts to be more "green."

The program was started three years ago by Selectman Pat Wojtas and then-Selectman Eric Dahlberg. A number of businesses, including the , and even departments in town were recognized for taking steps like recycling, having a no-car idling policy and using less paper.

"We initially recognized a few businesses and municipal departments," said Wojtas. "We appointed a director of the program who carried on that work, but he's taken on a lot more things ... and I think it makes sense to transfer the operation of it to the committee."
