Rich, Lady Lions Sweep Westford Academy in Season Opener

Junior Meghan Rich threw a no hitter against the Grey Ghosts yesterday. The Lions won 5 - 0.

Junior Meghan Rich, a standout pitcher for the Lions softball team, threw a no hitter yesterday, helping the Lady Lions secure a victory over Westford Academy.

“A lot of it was due to the great defense behind her.  They had some balls hit to the outfield that we got to,” said Head Coach Bruce Rich

Coach Rich said Meghan McNamara and Alex Burgess both played well defensively.  He also said that Allison Couch, the catcher, did a good job of calling the game.

“That was key,” he said.

“Offensively, Abby Johnson was a catalyst today, and Couch was at base a few times today,” said Rich.

Junior Alex Burgess had a great game offensively. She hit a double and home run, batting in three runs.

“It was a great day for her,” said Rich.

After yesterday’s win, Coach Rich and the Lady Lions have high hopes for the rest of the season.

“Overall this year, we have high expectations. This is a veteran group of mostly juniors, and most of the kids started for us last year,” said Rich.

The Lions return to action tomorrow at Haverhill.
