Last Sunday, I did the Run for Ryan's Cup 5k.
The race was really fun and of course I love running in Chelmsford. Although I was in a lot of pain for the first 1.5 miles thanks to my ankle injury, I walked it off and did better than I thought I would.
The course started at the Chelmsford Elks on Littleton Road, turned right on Hunt Road, turned right on Garrison Road and looped back onto Littleton Road.Though it felt like a fast course, it definitely contained a few rolling hills. I also usually get nervous about running on roads without sidewalks, but the Police Department set up cones on the side of the road and signs warning drivers of the runners.

I noticed plenty of police detail driving along the course and keeping tabs on the runners, which is always so nice and comforting. I can't tell you how many times I've almost been hit by a car because they didn't see me or I didn't see the car, so detail during a race is really important. The police were also really supportive on the course, as were all the volunteers.
I also absolutely loved that the race had two water stops. Most 5ks usually only have one, but I loved the second one because if you're like me and you hate carrying your own water, you need to rehydrate. Usually toward the end of a race I push myself really hard, which causes my stomach to get upset if I'm dehydrated. With the second water stop I was able to really push myself hard to the end and didn't get an upset stomach at all.

With my push toward the end, I finished 2 minutes faster than my personal best! Yes! All in all, it was a great race.
Thank you so much to all the volunteers helping with registration and the water stops. Also, a huge thanks to the Apostolakes Family, who sponsored me on the run. It is such a great way to remember their son Ryan.
Next Sunday, I'll be volunteering at the Free to Breathe 5k. Is anyone else planning on running or walking that one?
