Slow Voter Turnout in Chelmsford

Poll Workers said not many showed up for the primary.

Election workers were disappointed with the election turnout in the primary yesterday.

Town Hall Poll Workers Mary Daley and Phyllis Clauson said it was a very slow and steady flow of people had been casting their ballots.

"It's better than I thought," said Daley. "We work from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's sad, it makes for a long day."

The ladies said they were chatting to pass the time in between checking in voters.

Town Hall Poll Worker Vic Niedzwiecki said about six people showed up first thing in the morning, but he was happy to see voters anytime of day.

"Just get here," he said.  "This is my first time working a primary. It's slow, but it's not much different than a regular election."

McCarthy Middle School Poll Worker Jonathan Stubbs said voters were trickling in throughout the day, but slowly, making the day seem longer for him.

"I'm not really surprised, I don't think this election was highly publicized," he said.

McCarthy Poll Worker Author Kirk said he was disappointed more people did not vote in the primary.

"It's the election to determine who will be in the election," he said. "It's when the most people should turn out."
